NOTICE TO ALL ELECTRICAL CONTRACTORS

Registration of Electrical Contractors

The Electrical Installation Regulations clause 6 (2) require electrical contractors to register annually.

“(2) Any person who does electrical installation work as an electrical contractor shall register annually in the form of Annexure 3 with the chief inspector or a person appointed by the chief inspector “

The Electrical Contracting Board of SA in terms of a directive given in writing by the Chief Inspector of Factories in March 2009 will continue handling the registration of electrical contractors on behalf of the DOL on a “business as usual” basis until such time as the Department of Labour advises otherwise.

Registration of Contractors

The ECA (SA) gave notice to the ECB earlier this year that they are terminating their service contract with the ECB for the handling of the registration of contractors and the sale of CoC’s at their seven regional points effective 30 September 2011.

The ECB in order not to upset the industry and to ease over this change with the least disruption to the industry has entered into a Service Level Agreement (SLA) with the Voltex Group in order to handle the registration of contractors on behalf of the ECB. The Department of Labour has been informed of these developments. The various Voltex branches will be revealed soon.

Registration Fee.

The registration fee payable remains at R250.80 incl VAT. When re-registration is applied for, the contractor will be asked to provide the required ‘documents’ as in the past. An electronic ECB registration certificate will be issued at the registration point, provided that all requirements have been met.

Certificate of Compliance and Test Report.

The CoC,’s and Test Reports will be made available from the Voltex offices at a cost of R40.00 per pad of 20. Please note that the CoC has a unique number, which is recorded in the ECB National database.
